Emergency Evacuation Procedures
The safety of our members, guests, and visitors is our top priority. In the event of fire, smoke, or an emergency alarm, follow the designated role-based procedures below to ensure a rapid, coordinated evacuation.
Designated Evacuation Muster Station
Southeast Parking Area
All occupants must immediately gather in the southeast corner of the parking area clear of the building. Curler safety depends on accounting for all members—remain with your team or group at the muster point until cleared by emergency responders.
Emergency Procedures by Role
1. Person Discovering Fire or Smoke
- Raise the Alert: Shout loudly: "Fire, Fire, Fire, Fire in [identify room / area] – Evacuate the building!" Repeat the alert three (3) times.
- First-Aid Fire Extinguisher: Attempt to suppress the fire with an extinguisher only if it is readily available and safe to do so without endangering your escape.
- Isolate the Area: Close all doors surrounding the fire area to prevent oxygen from feeding flames and smoke spread.
- Sweep Adjacent Rooms: Check and clear adjacent rooms/spaces for personnel, assisting anyone needing help.
- Evacuate: Leave via the nearest safe emergency exit route. Close all doors behind you as you exit.
- Brief First Responders: Proceed to the area adjacent to the club main entrance. Upon arrival of the Fire Department, immediately report the exact location and conditions you witnessed.
2. Other Personnel, Members & Guests
- Relay the Alert: Upon hearing the warning, shout: "Fire, Fire, Fire, Fire in [room/area] – Evacuate the building!" Repeat the alert three (3) times so all ice sheets and facilities hear.
- Call 911: If located in the Upper Lounge, phone 911 immediately to report the emergency.
- Evacuate Safely: Leave the club via the closest unobstructed emergency exit.
- Assist Others: Assist anyone having physical difficulty or requiring mobility support.
- Close Doors: Close all doors behind you as you exit to compartmentalize smoke and fire.
- Proceed to Muster Point: Gather in the southeast corner of the parking area well clear of emergency vehicle paths.
- Report for Roll Call: Locate and report directly to your team Skip or Vice-Skip (or the event organizer for non-member social rentals).
3. Team Skips, Vice-Skips & Event Organizers
- Headcount: Upon reaching the designated muster area in the parking lot, visually account for all four players on your team (or all group attendees for private events).
- Report Roll Call: Report the accounting status of your team/attendees immediately to the League Convenor or the Bartender on duty. Specify if anyone is missing or was last seen elsewhere in the building.
4. Incident Coordinator (League Convenor / Club Executive / Staff)
Order of Coordination: League Convenor → Any Board Member present → Sheet 2 Red Stones Skip → Bartender / Event Lead.
- Retrieve Key Box: Retrieve the master emergency key box for locked club rooms, located inside the door at the main club entrance (only if safe to do so on your way out).
- Master Tally: At the parking lot muster station, collect headcount reports from all team Skips and confirm whether all participants and guests are accounted for.
- Fire Department Hand-off: Upon arrival of the Fire Department, immediately brief the Incident Commander on the headcount, any missing individuals, and their last known locations inside the facility.
- Master Keys: Hand over the master key box to the Fire Department representative.
- Support Responders: Provide any facility layout, utilities, or door access details requested by firefighters.
- Shelter & Vehicle Access: Await direction from the Fire Department regarding vehicle access or relocating evacuated members to sheltered facilities (e.g., the adjacent Navan Memorial Arena).
